Entrepreneurship can be very lonely, especially if you have started off a venture on your own. As time goes by, you also realize that you don’t know everything and you need help or advise on how to do certain things. Ofcourse, finding the right people to assist you is not an easy process. In my one year as an entrepreneur, there are five websites which I consider to be my “trusted advisory pool”.
Why these five? Well if I had to choose one reason it would be diversity: they have diverse contributors and diverse content. The only caveat, except for nr 2, they have largely American based content and contributors.
5. Forbes www.forbes.com “Information for the World Business Leaders”
I’m sure most of us have read or heard of Forbes TOP 100 Lists. Well, that is what initially drew me to this site. I like it because of the business news and financial information but also to get inspired. When I read about the successes of the individuals who make it to the Forbes list, I am always reminded that anything is possible.
4. Mashable www.mashable.com
A blog started by Pete Cashmore in 2005. Mashable covers the top social media news on topics like Facebook, YouTube, Gmail, Twitter, Amazon, Pinterest and more. I am sure you must be wondering how this site has made it onto this list. Well, in this day and age, if your business isn’t visible on the web and if you don’t have some social media strategy and presence, then you might as well be planning for an unsustainable business. I follow them on Facebook and on twitter making sure that I am kept up to date with what’s happening in the tech and social media space.
3. Entrepreneur Magazine www.entrepreneurmag.co.za
Entrepreneur magazine is South Africa’s highest read and highest selling business publication. I normally go to the .com and the .co.za sites for information. I have included this portal in this list not only because it’s a great source of information, but because it has South African content. Nothing like some homegrown content.
2. SlideShare www.slideshare.net is the world’s largest community for sharing presentations online.
I am normally led to slideshare when I am looking for a particular piece of information. I like it because it is your average person sharing their knowledge and content. I have gained so many insights for my projects and other ideas from this portal.
1. INC. www.inc.com
This is my favourite go to portal. Their tagline says it all “Small business ideas and resources for entrepreneurs”. This is my go to site when I am looking for some tips and tricks; inspiration and some ideas.
